THIS WAS A REPLACMENT COPY I GAVE AWAY THE LAST COPY I OWNED. PRACTICAL BOOK. GOOD FOR REFERENCE. ARRIVED ON TIME, AS EXPECTED.
I first bought "Elements of Style" in 1967 while in college and it collected a lot of dust. One of my 2009 Christmas presents to my son who is starting graduate school is.you guessed it- Elements of Style. However when I started practicing law in 1980 and writing legal briefs for federal courts including writs for cert before the US Supreme Court I pulled it again. This time with seriousness and found it an effective tool for perfecting my grammar and gained a new appreciation for the art of brevity. Bravo to Professor White for a work that is defies time as it is as relevant today as 30 years ago. The Elements of Style (Original Edition)
This book is a handy reference for anyone who is uncertain about the various aspects of writing - sentence structure, punctuation, etc. It particularly helps in the editing process with the classic advice "omit unnecessary words" and gives writers a time-tested guide to expressing thoughts clearly in written form.
This is an excellent book for writting. I strongly recommend it. The book has been shipped with good quality.
The original edition is not typeset, and that makes it very distracting. You can tell which typewriter was used to do original and edited pages. The letters wave up and down, for instance, 'c's are low, and 'u's are high on some pages.I highly recommend getting a typeset edition, if one is available.
