Don't be a hack. Every word in this masterpiece makes perfect sense.
My professors never mentioned it in college. Writing partners never said a word.
I do not know why I wasn't ever told about this book. It makes every other book on writing worthless and overwritten.
Editors I have worked with failed to give a hint. I am disappointed with all of them. This book is a must have for anyone who is serious about communicating with the written word.
I do not know how I managed to write one meaningful sentence without The Elements Of Style. Get this book.
E.B. Planning to be stranded on a dessert island or to send a child off to college (the intellectual equivalent of same). White was a genius and his genius lives here in succinct gorgeous prose. This is the essential book; more valuable than a Swiss army knife or dorm fridge. The "little book" has more meat and big ideas about clear thinking and clear writing than you will find in one-hundred "How to write" books. I have read it scores of times since it was assigned to me in college and my tattered copy still sits aside my keyboard as a roadblock to the myriad pitfalls of poor communication. Buy several copies and distribute them to your friends and relatives.
We have used the book for years and I sent this to our grandsons in CA.
I thought I was getting White & Strunk's Elements of Style. Since I didn't pay close enough attention to the exact words on the screen, I got a different book. Don't make the same mistake that I did. This is a scanned version of the original Strunk book (without White's contribution).
I didn't realize that it would be the original Elements of Style, but was hoping for an updated edition. But that was my fault for not checking thoroughly. Elements of Style is an essential tool for any writer.
